Online gambling group sold to Internet gambling firm, Unibet for $109 million

Online gambling group, Maria Holdings Ltd, based in Malta has been sold to Internet gambling firm, Unibet for $109 million.
Maria Holdings Ltd is known for owning popular gambling domains such as MariaBingo.com, MariaCasino.com, CarlosPoker.com, CarlosPlace.com and Bingo.se. Unibet stated that taking over the firm was part of a strategy to broaden its demographic coverage, especially in the Nordic countries.
Chief Executive Officer for Unibet, Petter Nylander, said, "With this acquisition we will strengthen our position in the Nordic region as well as within the fast growing online bingo market."
"Unibet is today the leading private gaming company among men and with this acquisition we will also be leading among woman," he added.
Maria Holdings Ltd marketing strategy and product innovations have proved successful and have given the company a leading Nordic position in the lucrative female customer segment for gaming.
CEO of Maria Invest AB, which owned and operated Maria Holdings Ltd, Jörgen Nordlund, said, "We strongly believe that the combined Unibet and Maria product offering, structural capital and top talent will create a unique European gaming operator with four strong product pillars and substantial growth potential."
Unibet is known as one of the largest privately owned gambling operators in Europe.
