Antigua Fails to Meet UK's “White List”
15th January
Antigua and Barbuda’s Internet gambling regulations has failed to earn a place on the United Kingdom’s Internet gambling “white list”.
A statement from the UK Department of Culture, Media and Sports, has been made not to “white list” either Antigua and Barbuda or the Canadian Reservation of Kahnawake, though Tasmania will be included to the UK Gambling Commission “white list” at the end of the month.
This means that Antigua and Barbuda’s online gambling companies cannot legally advertise their services in the UK. This privilege is reserved for European Economic Area countries, Alderney, Isle of Man and, now, Tasmania.
Director of Gaming Kaye McDonald said that she was very saddened by the decision, but remains positive that Antigua and Barbuda will be white listed in the future. “It is an ongoing process. We continue to work with the UK government,” McDonald, who is part of a team set to travel to London next week to hold further discussions to this end, said.
According to McDonald, the government of Antigua and Barbuda was informed of the verdict of UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport James Purnell last week.
Though Antigua and Barbuda has been notified that it has not met the UK’s criteria to be white listed, McDonald refused to reveal the exact reasons that the application was declined, saying the government has been asked to treat this as confidential information.
